Chaka is an online investment platform for African businesses and individuals. It offers first-class access to Exchange Traded Fund (ETFs) and blue-chip companies worldwide. Chaka makes stock trading easily accessible by making it available on everyday devices and mobile web.

About the Project 

Chaka's mission since its inception has always been to enable every person and business in Africa to access borderless digital investment and wealth management opportunities directly on their mobile browsers. By positioning Chaka as a brilliantly designed "Investment Passport" with stock market metrics presented in a way that is simple and yet outstanding to its customers.

Project Goal

  • Design Chaka in a way that educates its customers on the stock market and how to trade.

  • Create an easy, fast, and secure onboarding process to increase sign-up completion rates and reduce the time taken for customers to be activated.

  • Design a reward system that encourages customers to trade more often, either by buying/selling as they wish or subscribing to bundles of stocks in pre-set fixed intervals.

Project Team & Collaboration

I worked on this project with the Alta Labs Engineering team that I was consulting for and with time being a constraint, I leveraged their resourcefulness as much as I could. This collaboration enabled us to build two (2) very powerful MVPs which launched Shuttlers and helped them scale.

Challenge

Stock trading and investment have always been perceived as a task that requires very high skills to understand or get involved in. Chaka came into the market proposing to simplify this and educate its customers while creating opportunities for Africans to invest in dollar assets and at the same time allow foreigners to invest in Nigerian assets.

Outcomes

Taking into account Chaka's goal to minimize existing barriers to investment by ensuring the finished product was universally accessible from any device with an intuitive mobile-friendly design that enables customers to go from being new on the platform to quickly funding their account to start trading.

Building a financial service product means designing for trust. Customers need to feel that they can trust a platform before being asked to input their card details. We solved this by displaying our security/trust badges and licenses across the product at strategic decision-making points to build trust.
